You might remember that a few weeks ago, I made some predictions about the Macworld 2008 conference & expo we covered last week, here are the results: Movie Rentals: +1, this was the most likely to happen, everyone got this one right New Macbook: +1, also very likely, but the specific details were not pinned down until a day or two immediately prior to the keynote. Of course, we got the MacBook Air. More information about the iPhone SDK: +0, technically, this came true. Steve mentioned it on stage, confirmed the February ship date, but didn't really give us and ...
It was a great, if not busy & tiring, week in my second favorite city in the world. Here's the week by the numbers: Parties thrown: 1 Number of minutes it took to suck down $1300 worth of booze: 30 Number of people who attended: 500+ Number of times someone made a joke about being a PC in reference to my wearing a tie: 10+ Number of parties attended: 2 or 3, depending on what you consider a party Number of announcements from Steve: There were 4 things, not 5 Dollars it costs to buy two people lunch at Moscone: ...
Check out my roundup of our first day's Macworld coverage. We went to the Microsoft pre-Macworld bash party last night. It was fun and we met some really cool developers from the Mac Business Unit. Then we took a shuttle to the Macworld bash. Devo was playing. DEVO. These guys are old by now, but they can still rock! You don't think Devo can rock? You're badly misinformed! Today was another crazy day of running around, pounding out stories, and meeting cool people. We had a really fantastic lunch with Brian Lam and his girlfriend Lisa at hotel whose name ...
We're almost through with the second day of the Macworld expo and I'm already getting burned out. But in a good way ;) Last night we threw our big party) and it was a huge success! Over 500 people showed up for a party we'd originally estimated to draw around 100. The place was packed and filled full of really cool people. We gave away a lot of software, Ars swag, and had tons of fun. Unfortunately I couldn't drink a drop because I needed to wake up so early this morning. We set the alarm for 5:55am and got ...
So check this. Jacqui and me are leaving the frozen wasteland of Chicago and touching down in delightful San Francisco this next weekend and we're unleashing an awesome party on the conference-goers and Ars-faithful in town: Come early to get free schwag, meet fellow Ars and Gizmodo readers, the Landed Gentry of Mac Development™, and of course, Jacqui and me! Oh, and the drink/food tab will probably run out within an hour, so get there at 8PM! Schwag? Ars pins, stickers, sumos, t-shirts, books!!
Jacqui and I (and others at Ars Technica) have done the live blogging thing enough to know that orchestrating the whole affair can be a challenge with only two people in attendance. Unlike the mega-sites Engadget and Gizmodo who can afford and finagle up to four people to sit in the press area, take photos, transfer them, format and upload them, manage the live blogging itself, et cetera. When we go to an event like WWDC, MacWorld, or TechCrunch40, we generally only have two people in the keynote (if we're lucky). Most of the time there is only a single ...
