John seems to make less and less sense by the day. What is his point here? The “recommendation” was unequivocally aimed at individuals who had already jail-broken their iPhones and who would have not had a functioning phone if they upgraded.

Who is harmed by advising that these individuals not upgrade? Who is harmed now that they are advised to upgrade? If John intended make a cogent point here, I sure missed it. It would help if he tried to explain what he was thinking; as it stands it looks as if he misunderstood the whole point of the statement:

So now it’s Ars Technica policy to recommend that users not upgrade their iPhones until jailbreak experts say so? Great advice.

Typically John does really good work and I like a lot of his writing, but these semi-regular, off-kilter criticisms of Erica Sadun’s articles don’t do his site justice.
