How do you use del.icio.us bookmarking?
If you read any substantial amount of blogs you’ve probably heard about [del.icio.us]. If you haven’t heard about it, or you just don’t really know what it is, del.icio.us is a distributed bookmarking system. Normally when you bookmark a page, you’re storing a pointer to it on your local computer. The appeal of del.icio.us is that you can store your bookmarks on their server and you can access them from any computer with a web browser.
I hear so many people talk about how they use del.icio.us and how great it is, but what I’m wondering if how you use it.
With normal bookmarks, I either drag the URL icon to the bookmark bar on the browser (95% of the time), or hit CTRL+D to add to the bookmarks list. Those are the only two ways I ever
really add bookmarks.
Retreiving normal bookmarks is either done by going to the bookmarks menu item (not very often) or using the bookmarks bar to find the bookmark and launch it. I make extensive use of the bar, I put all my important bookmarks there. I also want my bookmarks to be available INSTANTLY and to be made available online INSTANTLY.
I have an extension for Firefox named Foxylicious that kinda does this, but it only syncs the bookmarks once a day. What in the world?? How am I supposed to use del.icio.us as my bookmark replacement with that sort of infrequency. I’m also limited to putting things in one ‘categorisation’. Plus I don’t think I can add keywords when I add the bookmark.
Does anyone on OS X use a better system than this?
