Notable Applications

I just thought I’d list some cool software I’ve come across in a while. I did this a few weeks ago so I thoght I’d just keep up the tradition.

Alexking Softwarewww.alexking.org – He has a Blog too!

  • Tasks – an awesome php-based task manager. I use it as my homepage and it really helps me keep track of all my homework. It supports subtasks, URL attachments, sorting, filing, whatever. A 1.0 release is emminent. screenshots
This is another great application from Alex. It’s not designed to work as a web gallery but more as a personal index of your photos that works on the web. This is an ideal solution for people who have a lot of digital photos and a local web server running php/mysql to index them. It reads EXIF data from jpegs and lets you add your own meta data like event, location and more. screenshots

Others:

Filezilla 2.1.4b – (Win32) Somewhere between 2.1.3 and this release they’ve added a little drop down menu, accessible from the menu bar, that lets your quickly pick a site from your site list without opening up the site manager. This was a feature I thought was sorely lacking in previous versions. Now only if they could add a proper file dialog that listed aliases like “Desktop” and “My Documents”.

LameBrain 0.5.0 – (OS X) An excellent GUI front-end for LAME on OS X. This app will query FreeDB and populate ID3 tags automagically for you and makes ripping CDs in OS X painless. Batch encoding, multiple encoding profiles, and more stuff. Its really great (and not even 1.0 yet!)

Konfabulator – (OS X) It itself doesn’t do anything notable, however, it doest provide a lot of purdy widgets.
