Chicago: Secret Radio Project
Chicago Public Radio is looking for someone to implement a community driven web site that fits the following description, and they don’t care what platform its really developed on. Any Chicago Djangoists wanna hop on this? It could be a real hit for the framework! Only downside? You’ll only have roughly four months to get it done!

Chicago will soon be home to a new radio station that is...
Python Propaganda
So far, Python has been a fabulous choice. Coupled with web.py, we’ve been able to build what we think is a powerful and scalable backend. Coming from Java/C++/C background, Python just makes things so easy for me. I love that it has an interpreter. I love the dynamic typing. I love that everything is an object. I love the “help” and “dir” methods. I love the powerful built-in datatypes (tuple,...
What's better than compact fluorescent lamps?...
So Mr. Foresman gets headaches from fluorescent lamps, which is why he’s still using incandescents:
Flourescent lights give me headahces from the flicker. That’s why. I do tend to use more 25 and 40W bulbs whereas most people would use 60 or 100W. I see it as better than nothing.
I am willing to concede the possibility that Chris might be a mutant, capable of detecting high frequency...
Bears: they suck
I bought this shirt today:
It’s true.
Edit: Almost forgot, here’s the site.
How Many Lightbulbs Does it Take to Change the...
What that means is that if every one of 110 million American households bought just one ice-cream-cone bulb, took it home, and screwed it in the place of an ordinary 60-watt bulb, the energy saved would be enough to power a city of 1.5 million people. One bulb swapped out, enough electricity saved to power all the homes in Delaware and Rhode Island. In terms of oil not burned, or greenhouse...
T-mobile no more
I am no longer a T-mobile employee! Wee! I make it sound more exciting that it really is, but I really learned a lot during my 2.5 years at the job and it really propelled me forward in my career / earning potential and was undoubtedly key in helping me make the transition to a bigger city (Chicago).
We will be moving to Chicago on Friday (hopefully) and then spending a frantic weekend...
Stars are blind
I’m currently listening to a remix of Paris Hilton’s “Stars are Blind” single and I think to myself: “Hey I’ve not really kept the world up to date on all the crazy stuff that’s going on right now!”
So here I am to tell you everything and basically just crib things from Jacqui. Here’s the main points I’m going to hit in this post:
I got a job as a Senior Web Developer at [Stone Ward], an...
Cheesy, but something important
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Django gets Guido's unofficial support as THE...
A Pronouncement at SciPy ‘06: the BDFL just pronounced Django to be The Python Web Framework. He was quick to say that it wouldn’t be included in the Python library (because the development lifecycle was so different) and that this was something he was unofficially promoting, but still… URI: Diary for titus.
Congrats guys. I’ve also felt right at home in Django and if...
Justin Williams: Say Hello To Porchlight
As I started to develop software that required something more complex than a simple text document to keep track of software bugs, I scoured the Internet for a solution that works for me. I tried all the major players, but always felt the same feeling towards them: they were too heavy. Too many fields to fill in. Too many features that I didn’t need. Nothing out there seemed lean enough for...
ElementTree
I went to a ChiPy meeting in Chicago last week while I was interviewing for my position and I hung out and ate pizza with a lot of really cool Python developers, including Adrian Holovaty (one of the guys who made [Django]).
I’d heard about ElementTree before but it was brought up when someone was asking about a good way to parse some big XML files.
The point of all this? I wanted to make...

I interviewing in Chicago this friday. I’m really pumped! I’m leaving Thursday evening, wish me luck :)
Guess what I wore to work today?
Size 36 jeans and a Large size t-shirt. Oh… and this pair of GUNS:
Yeah, I hope that wasn’t too… jarring for too many people :P
If you’re not afraid of seeing me tweak my nipple and look like I’m in extreme pain, check out this pic from uh… 23 months ago:
Notice all the pudge. Yeah. It’s going away. Thank god :P
