This posting will show how to build a very simple filesystem browser with Django. This filesystem browser behaves mostly like a static webserver that allows directory traversal. The only speciality is that you can use the Django admin to define filesystems that are mounted into the namespace of the Django server. I just [posted this] up on Ars Technica’s Gaming/Gadget’s journal, [Opposable Thumbs], but I thought I could try to give it a bit more exposure here. Here’s an excerpt:
Currently the bounty is running around US$1745 and there are new donations pouring in every day; the bounty could very well spill over the US$2,000 mark. So if you’re an überkoder and you think you’ve got the chops to win...

Django and TinyMce
This won’t work in Safari, but otherwise pretty darn cool ;)
One thing I did find lacking was lack of a wysisyg input field. meta.TextField works great but sometimes users need a little more. At first I wanted to create a meta.HtmlField but after some more thought you can achieve the same results with a meta.TextField and the admin.js param. URL: Socialist Software » Blog Archive »...

Running Django with FCGI and lighttpd
This config file will start only one FCGI handler for your admin stuff and the default number of handlers (each one multithreaded!) for your own site. You can finetune these settings with the usual ligthttpd FCGI settings, even make use of external FCGI spawning and offloading of FCGI processes to a distributed FCGI cluster! Admin media files need to go into your lighttpd document root. URL:...

Writing web applications can often be monotonous as we repeat certain patterns again and again. In Django, the most common of these patterns have been abstracted into “generic views” that let you quickly provide common views of object without actually needing to write any views. Twisted (twisted.web2) support for Django

Now NNW’s podcasting stuff is a little redundant now that iTunes can subscribe to Podcasts! :)
