Ars Technica: John Siracusa reviews 10.4 Tiger...
I’m just going to copy what I wrote on HTmini If you’re a regular reader of Ars Technica then you’ll definitely remember John Siracusa’s in-depth and delightfully technical reviews of OS X’s progression from Developer Preview 2 up til 10.4 today. Just moments ago, Ars and John unveiled their 22-page (106 in PDF) review of new and changed stuff in 10.4 Tiger. You’re going to have to change...

Ars Technica Journals: Infinite Loop
!http://phaedo.cx/images/apple.jpg! This is what’s been consuming 13% of my time over the past few weeks. I’ve been posting news to no one in particular. Just tonight the site, named Infinite Loop, has gone live! The “journals” are meant to be supplementary to the regular content on the front page. You should probably just read Ken’s explaination of the goals for the Journals. Oh yeah...

Cincinnati > Boston
So many good quotes from this article: We’re the Hub of the Universe, but Cincinnati is eating our lunch ‘’When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Cincinnati because it’s always 20 years behind the times.“ – Mark Twain Charlotte Otto, global external relations officer at Procter & Gamble, said she was reluctant to come to Cincinnati to work for P&G after graduating from...

I stopped by fountain square and got a picture of one of the few smaller sculptures that circle...

Gigaom: Why T-Mobile Should Offer the iTunes Phone
A pretty good read, there’s obviously some things that Om is unaware of right now and so some of his pivotal claims are wrong (not all of us can work for T-mobile :D ) so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. That said, I personally don’t think that people would get the “iTunes phone” unless they could download songs over the air. To me, anyway, I think that’d be the bigger selling point —...

I don't mean to be rude but...
I just recieved two forwarded messages from my Sister and I have a confession to make. Not once have I ever read a message that was forwarded to me by anybody, unless it was important information that someone wanted to get to me. My family (hi guys!) and some people I met in college have forwarded me cute little things all through college and I seem to keep getting them. I never reply and...

New Music I'm likin'
I checked out my “Reccomendations” at Audioscrobbler a week or two ago and began sampling music from those groups. AS looks at every song I listen to in iTunes and builds a profile of the music I like and at some point begins suggesting other bands I might like. Well I tried that out and I found a few! However, by far the best I found was a band called My Chemical Romance ([iTunes link]) ...

Microsoft thinks you're a dinosaur
Wow, Microsoft seems to really be flailing around with their two new marketing endeavours: Microsoft recently launched two ad campaigns to breathe new life into its flagship businesses, Windows and Office. The first, called StartSomething, tells customers to get Windows XP and begin a new journey using 2001 technology. The second, called Evolve, tells customers (represented as dinosaurs) to...

Got started early today!
Today started out with a bang. I’d just gotten cleaned up and dressed when I plopped down at my desk and saw someone mention that Adobe had purchased Macromedia. “gasp“, I thought to myself (you begin to think this way when you starting writing topical news on a regular basis). This was somewhere around 7:20am. I began writing up the story somewhere’s else I can’t mention right now and...

I’ve been working on a lot of projects in my spare time, [HTmini], a new PHP/mySQL project for [Cincinnati Advance], not nearly as much Independent Eye stuff as I’d like, and of course some cool things at Ars Technica that I hope will see the light of day this week :) Lets see, been working on some problems at work. Hamilton County continues to lose population
The Enquirer is reporting that the 15-county Cincinnati Metro grew 2.4% last year, bringing us to a total of 2,052,372 people round these parts. The bad thing is that Hamilton county (where the city of Cincinnati is located) is once again losing people at a pretty fast rate. In fact Hamilton county lost residents at the second-fastest rate of any large county in the U.S. (second only to San...

Weird dream involving David
My friend David and my friend Jessie are probably the only two people I’d call friends that I still talk to from High School. I went out there to meet up with him, he showed me the whole thing...

PHP: include or require
In PHP there are two ways to bring in code from external files. In fact its a pretty good practice to do so. There are many reasons but the major one is that it can drastically clean up nasty looking spaghetti code. Consider the following example. This is basically a proxy script that takes in a URL parameter called “type” and dynamically loads chunks of PHP depending on its value. Not...

From BoingBoing which claims to be a directory of wonderful things, but today grossed me out: A woman who washed her face in a stream while hiking went to her doctor to complain of nosebleeds and nasal obstructions.
