Secret Santa gift arrives!
So we coordinated a global, on-line version of Secret Santa amongst the forums readers of Ars Technica. Today my secret santa gift arrived and it was GREAT. The word on the street must be that I like meat because last year I got a honey baked ham and this year I received a pound of beef, dried Biltong (south african) style: This is the greatest gift ever ;)

Cats and bone plates
Cats, you’re on notice! Rameses, our cat went through a traumatic episode a few weeks ago wherein he broke one of his legs. His initial cast was wrapped too tightly and caused some toe-swelling. I took the cat to the vet and they cut back a bit of the cast to ease up on his toes. Jacqui took him in while I was on training in Chicago and they determined that he needed to be totally...

PSP Firmware 2.60
Sony has a new release of the PSP firmware, this one is 2.60 and it actually has some interesting features. This latest update’s main features include WMA support, DRM capabilities, and a RSS Reader. The RSS reader makes the PSP one of the few MP3 players that can get and play podcasts via Wi-Fi without a computer. URI: PSP Firmware v2.60 Released. The Podcasting support is awesome and...

Thanksgiving Dinner
We uploaded a number of pictures of the dinner we ate on Thursday. Here’s the stuffing I made: Some ham: We also took pictures of my grandpa’s “new” 1927 Buick touring car: We also went bowling: We had a great time. My grandma sent us home with a suitcase full of Christmas presents and there was chex-mix in a tin inside. The tin exploded or something during...

We spent thanksgiving with my family in Wichita and we ate a lot of a good food! Yum!

Fogo de Chão
I rode downtown again tonight, but this time I was out eating dinner with Kurt who took me to a restaurant called [Fogo de Chão]. It’s a unique restaurant that Kurt aptly summarized in a single word: Meatgasm. Briefly, the restaurant, at its core, is a buffet. However, it’s a buffet that brings the meal to you. The meal is, of course, meat, and lots of it. There are possibly 15 to 20...

Instead of eating the same old mcFood in rosemont i headed downtown by myself to a highly regarded (in an ars lounge...

Safe and sound in Chicago
Well I made it in ;) It wasn’t a “bumpy” ride per se, we were just blown around a lot by the strong winds. Flying in over Chicago at night has got to be one of the best things ever. The city, really any large city, just looks cool in the dark.

Stupid travel
I’m currently sitting in concourse C of the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky airport (or CVG to us locals) and I’m currently a little upset because, once again, I’m delayed. You might rememebr the last time I tried to fly out of CVG almost a year ago. It was a harrowing ordeal and occured at the exact moment Comair had a technological and logistical meltdown. So here I am, waiting to fly to...

Introducing Django 0.90
This is the first official “release” of Django. It was mainly brought about because some people areu nable to use subversion to download the latest build of the code and you never know if you’re going to pull down a revision with some bugs. Django 0.9 is as solid as Django has ever been and gives people who’ve been holding off a reason to download and try it out. Since we made Django open...

Google Analytics
I managed to get registered for Google Analytics this morning. What is it? Google Analytics tells you everything you want to know about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site. You’ll be able to focus your marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI, and improve your site to convert more visitors. Ryan at Ars had some good criticism of...

I was in a podcast!
I totally forgot to mention here that I was in a podcast! Justin Williams interviewed me in his MacZealots.com podcast about iPod nano scratching. I’m near the end, if you just want to listen to me be a dork.

New RSS/Atom framework in Django!
This is excellent news! I can’t wait to try and implement RSS in some of my apps. The previous RSS framework, which was completely undocumented, has been removed/refactored completely. If you hacked things around, reverse-engineered, etc., and were actually using the previous RSS framework, your feeds will no longer work. I’ve documented the changes on the backwards-incompatible changes...

Python stuff
Turbogears, another new Python web framework I need to dig into. What is Turbogears? It builds on existing frameworks like CherryPy (WebApp Framework), SQLObject (self-explanitory), Kid (templating), and Mochikit (AJAX) as opposed to Django’s no-external-libraries-needed philosophy. Pure Python PNG Canvas: “While searching for a simpler way to generate simple images from a Python...

Django stuff
!http://phaedo.cx/images/santadjango.jpg! I wrote the Ars SecretSanta site in Django. Wee! Made it a ton easier to build the forms and validate and stuff. The DB stuff made it a breeze. A ton less code was written than I had expended on the old PHP version. I also got acquainted with Django’s validation framework (I’d been wondering where this was, I thought the models themselves did the...
