My Desktop?
Neil posted his desktop on his site so I thought I’d do the same
Oh and my trash?
Jesus people, PLAY BY THE RULES
Ryan Parman is cranky and for good reason:
I keep hearing web designers and coders complaining about web standards. Some think that web standards are too hard to follow. Others think that web standards are part of some sort of right-wing international conspiracy to shove the common man out of the world of web design so that they can control the technology and charge people handsomely for newer...
Drive Thru Invasion Tour
Its official! Me, Jacqui and Will Smith are going to see the Drive Thru Invasion tour in Chicago at the Riviera!
The show includes The Starting Line, Allister, Homegrown, Early November and Senses Fail
All very Excellent bands! I’ve seen Allister four or five times and I’ve seen Homegrown (once w/Allister) and I saw The Starting Line at the Warped Tour last summer.
I think it’ll be very...

haha, I *AM* using the Internet!!!
Cell Phone Madness
Justin is talking about his new cell phone. As much as I really really wanna get a new only (I have an old Nokia) I think I’ve decided to absolve myself of the priviledge for a while (i.e. My original 2yr plan is up and I am going to cancel it).
Good bye world! I barely knew you! :D
Must...fight...temptations
I find myself constantly fighting the urge to start new projects. I must remind myself that I HAVE to work on my paper which is due Friday at all costs.
I actually have to force myself to discard less important things because they actually have no bearing on my life whereas this paper means the difference between an A and a B in this class! >_
I was unable to fight temptations last...

Free stock photography
stock.xchng is a free stock photography website:
Stock.XCHNG was launched in February 2001, as an alternative for expensive stock photography. The idea was to create a site where creative people could exchange their photos for inspiration or work. In about two years the site evolved into this massive community you see now – there are more than 15.000 registered users and 13.000 photos online!

Motorola falls from ranks of top 10 chip makers
For the first time, Motorola Inc. fell from the ranks of the top 10 chip makers as measured in global chip sales, according to a new list compiled by IC Insights Inc. Motorola fell out of the top 10 in terms of worldwide chip sales for the first half of 2003, according to market researchers.
Yeehaw! I doubt this has anything to do with Apple...
I created a Atom 0.1 feed generator for Wordpress...
All it requires is that you create a timestamp column in the table b2posts named _post_modified_ and then you should be able to upload b2atom.php to your main wordpress directory and all the hard work is done ;)
The feed seems to validate as of July 26, 2003 so I am happy ;)

PUMUG Site - Version 2
I think that I’ve finally gotten the second incarnation of the PUMUG Site up and running.
Previous to today it was running MovableType system that chaffed pretty badly with our excellent free service from the computer society
The first problem was that is was shared hosting, so chmod’ing everying 777 would not be very smart and the guys at Csociety would probably be emailing me 4 minutes...
New Photo Albums
I’ve uploaded two new sets of photos to the server:
Random pics from 7/23
Pictures of some things I like
both are just random pictures of stuff that just so happened to be in my room at the time ;) Some macro pics, no flash on any of em. I think it makes the pictures look cooler with natural sunlight.
Longhorn in 2005; Or not?
Gates appeared to distance himself from a commitment the company made at its Windows Engineering Hardware Conference (WinHEC) in May to deliver Longhorn in 2005, refusing to comment on the release date.
So it seems that Gates is getting quiet when people bring up the 2005 launch date. In my experience, when people like Gates stop talking about launch dates its a pretty good chance that...
My poor, poor, classmates
I’m in my POL 141 class right now and I must say that this class has been witness to the most regular and most unsettling bouts of silence I’ve had in a class.
You see, the teacher asks a question and expects an answer. The logical, rational idea that should pop into a students head is to offer an answer. However, for some reason, in this class nobody wants to answer. So everyone sits...
Ben Folds - Speed Graphic
This EP hit the virtual shelves today. You won’t be able to find it in any big stores.
ben folds is in the studio recording his new album due early 2004, and every couple of months between now and then, he’ll be releasing an ep of all new material.
Pretty cool huh? What’s even cooler is that it was available on the iTunes Music Store. Here is a link to it on the iTunes Store – Mac OS X...
Wrapup of the last 16 hours
My iBook locked up and I hard rebooted it. Windowserver and/or loginwindow.app were somehow corrupted by satan himself. My computer would get stuck in an endless loop: try to login, crash, try to login, ad infinitum…
I fsck’d the disk, I tried replacing those apps. I tried replacing frameworks. I got nothin. Time to reinstall!
I tried Archive/Install and everything went to wonkville...

Indiana Blogs
Over the past few days I’ve been working on a new blog I plan to launch named IndianaBlogs. Basically it’ll work like this:
User adds his/her website/blog to our blog DB
User fills in metadata about their blog. (ex: geo coords, county, city, region, university
Now user is listed on our site under server indices, sorted by the various meta data
In addition their site will be added to...

This is a pretty cool addendum to Jon’s very cool 970 article. Answers some of the lingering questions about the chip.

348North.com
I saw this site referring people to my webpage and it perked my interest. I assume this has something to do with Justin Williams and/or Matt Willmore because their index includes both my site and the PUMUG website.
Its a webbased news aggregator much like NetNewsWire
I have no idea where this site came from and why I’m on it, but hey! I’m gonna link you up ;D
Weekend round-up
This weekend features several rare instances of physical labor so be sure to mark your calendar ;)
We started the weekend off early by going to see the movie: “T3 – Rise of the Machines.” Me, Jacqui, Will Read, Will Smith, Will & Jacqui’s co-worker Josh and his friend all went together to see it. It was an OK movie. Lots of explosions, fighting, CG, etc. I’d give it 3 out of 5 lobsters...
Damn leg!
So last night me and Jacqui were swimming in the pool. After we’d been in there for a while I was doing something crazy and all of a sudden my calf muscle wouldn’t ‘unflex’.
It was very odd. I had never had anything like that happen to me any more. My calf hurt and the muscle wasn’t responding to me ;) So I manually unflexed it and it seemed to be OK. It’s still a little sore but...
Apple's Going to Make It
I guess Apple isn’t dying after all
Apple’s stock just hit a 52-week high, at $20.40. A month ago, and for the first time in five years, investors started to declare Apple’s stock a “buy” stock rather than “hold” (a moniker it “held” for four years).

I’m going to feel dirty every time I use phpMyAdmin
Last Tuesday in the Dolomiten, a South Tyrolean newspaper, they reported that Tobias Ratschiller, the author of “Web Application Development with PHP” and of the popular phpMyAdmin, stands accused of child pornography charges. The article states that Tobias has been engaging in these actions since 1998.

Kalsey Consulting Simplifies the Web
Adam at Kalsey.com has started running a series of posts/tutorials on his site that seek to simplify complicated web design tasks.
First up on his hit list? Form Errors

Disactivated -- Reorganizated
I had to take the styles offline because they were causing me too much grief. I also reorganized my sidebar to prominently display my syndication links.
Dean for President
If you’ve not already started looking into the candidates running for the Democratic ticket in the next presidential election I suggest you take a good look at Howard Dean —- That’s a link to his official weblog. Yep, you heard me right. Dean, probably the front-runner for the Democratic ticket has a blog and is making huge waves with it.
Not only has Dean done the smart thing and opened up...
VoodooPad - Taking Notes
I tried out an app for OS X named VoodooPad made by Flyingmeat Software
It is a shareware note-taking, hypertext-orientated application that aims to make collecting and organizing your thoughts in a manner that is closer to how some people think (non-linear). It costs $10 if you wanna use more than 15 pads at a time.
The app’s main focus are “Pads”, each pad can be linked via a URL...
More on switching styles
Well apparently the style switching is working fabulously in Safari (what I’ve been working in almost exclusively) but it seems to foil all the Gecko-based browsers I’ve thrown at it.
This is pretty odd since I got the idea for this from the ALA which explicitly mentions Mozilla. I also know for a fact that Simplebits uses this script and it seems to work great on Gecko-based browsers.

Got the results of the first POL141 Exam
I am pretty pleased. I think this is the first essay-type exam I’ve taken since I’ve been at Purdue (4 years now). I think I’ve been subconciously avoiding these classes.
Did I also mention that I recieved an A in COM250. Pretty easy task if you ask me :)
AOL has relinquished control of Netscape/Mozilla
As of today AOL has totally seperated itself from Mozilla. Mozilla is now a part of the non-profit organization, the Mozilla Foundation

[I]n his session with journalists after a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Bush asserted incorrectly that “we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn’t let them in. And therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power …”
In fact, Hussein allowed UN weapons inspectors to return to Iraq last fall after...
The great syndication wars
If you’ve been reading anyone on the “A-list” of bloggers in the past few weeks then surely you’ve heard the slightest rumblings about Echo, Pie, Atom, RSS, Dave Winer, etc. Most people who speak out against Echo Atom are worried that Echo Atom is simply RSS++. However, this is not the case. Echo Atom hopefully will become a unified protocol for:
Syndicating a weblog

Website updates!
Well I’ve made a number of updates to the site recently and I thought I’d list/explain some of them. Some of them are a little more apparent than others while some(one) of them is almost certainly utterly pointless but if it helps even the slightest then it’ll be worth it. First and foremost I changed the system that handles switching style sheets. If you’d used the old system you’ll now notice...
FTPeel PB 3 is out
Erik has announced FTPeel PB 3
There is a big list of bug fixes, new features, and existing problems at the above link.
FTPeel no longer mirrors .DS_Store files.
I have a very fuzzy feeling in my stomach because I think I was the person who suggested that those stupid files be exempted :D

Crash caused Lynch’s ‘horrific injuries’
[T]he Army’s 15-page report officially will debunk accounts that Pfc. Lynch emptied two revolvers at her attackers and was shot and stabbed before being taken prisoner of war. In fact, she was riding in a Humvee that was struck by a projectile during a frantic attempt to escape the ambush. She suffered “horrific injuries,” said...

Last Week of COM 250
I am really disappointed in myself that I missed a B by a single question on the third test in COM 250. Up until this point I’ve been getting A’s on the exams.
In any case this is the final week of the four week class and I’ll be damned if I don’t get an A in this class. I will be so mad if I don’t get an A.
In other news my new iBook is GREAT! I took it to the Indy Ars meet to show it...

Infrequent
Sorry about the lack of updates lately! I’ve been really, really busy with school (I come home at 5pm, eat dinner, and then read my assigned reading for the night, then go to bed). My 4 week long class (the one with all the reading) should be done next week so that will end a lot of the hectic schedule.
Pair that up with no good news lately ;) Seems like no one is releasing anything right...
Look what came in the mail today
I’m selling my old iBook and I got this new one :) Shiney, isn’t it?
