Facebook conversation between Tim Ravndal—Montana...
Tim Ravndal: Marriage is between a man and a woman period! By giving rights to those otherwise would be a violation of the constitution and my own rights
Keith Baker: How dare you exercise your First Amendment Rights?
Dennis Scranton: I think fruits are decorative. Hang up where they can be seen and appreciated. Call Wyoming for display instructions.
Tim Ravndal: @Kieth, OOPS I forgot this aint(sic) America no more! @ Dennis, Where can I get that Wyoming printed instruction manual?
Dennis Scranton: Should be able to get info Gazette archives. Maybe even an illustration. Go back a bit over ten years.

Designers Won't Lend Dresses to Mad Men's... →
“People have been saying some nice, wonderful things about me. Yet not one designer in town will loan me a dress,” Hendricks said. “They only lend out a size 0 or 2. So I’m still struggling for someone to give me a darn dress. This has always been my size. I’ve worked on other shows with this same size but Mad Men celebrates it and that is nice.”

Cider - A Development Environment for Macs →
Cider is a fully managed development environment for open source hacking on Mac OSX. It’s powered by rvm, homebrew and chef. You only need Xcode to get started. Cider builds everything up in ~/Developer. It won’t stomp on any of your current installations so you don’t have to commit your entire machine immediately. It’s simple to rollback if you really want to.

On iOS PhoneGap Notifications
The documentation for this in the PG docs are a little anemic when it comes to this topic for some reason, so I’m putting this out there. Some of the time when you present a modal dialog like ``alert'' and almost always when your present a ``confirm'' you want to perform some action when the dialog is dismissed.   The ``alert()'' and ``confirm()'' calls in normal web development are...

Ask a real musician: 5 classic male metal singers →
Super cool analysis and 5 (or 4) really awesome singers: If you’re a singer, you should be following Claudia Friedlander’s blog. The classically-trained, New York-based voice teacher provides sage advice not only for singers for all types, but also for musicians and people in general. Although at least one of her students sings metal, Friedlander knows virtually nothing about it. I wondered...

Holy crap! I played this game (ZZT) non-stop as a kid on my 286.  It even had its own programming language which I used to make my own levels (ZZT-OOP). This is billed as: “(a leet ascii text adventure game you play in the browser with hundreds of thousands of other people in real-time)” (re)Implemented on Node.js and jQuery !

Ars Technica toolbar Safari extension
Just something I made for fun a few weeks back.  I put it in Github and updated it a couple of times, but I never posted about it here for some reason. You can do stuff like change the update frequency and pick a single section to view. I think it’d be pretty easy to enable combining multiple sections: The meat of the extension is a toolbar.  So the meat of is in toolbar.js, but...

Home-made gnochi and sauce—Saturday night cooking
Jacqui made gnochi from scratch (wow!) I couldn’t let her just dump store-bought sauce on these.  So I went out on the back deck and plucked some deliciousness off my plants. Four black tomatoes and one of my anaheim peppers: I cooked up some onion, garlic in some olive oil, then peeled the tomatoes and added them to the pan along with half of the diced pepper (it was freaking spicy!)....

Gone Parkin’ →
Ugh. Guh. Several studies have found that cruising for curb parking generates about 30 percent of the traffic in central business districts. In a recent survey conducted by Bruce Schaller in the SoHo district in Manhattan, 28 percent of drivers interviewed while they were stopped at traffic lights said they were searching for curb parking. A similar study conducted by Transportation Alternatives...

Imagine a rogue, university-funded team of geologists researching ever-lower levels of the earth, forcing themselves downward with separating devices that pin open rocky wounds to split whole landmasses along unanticipated faultlines. Using these tools—terrain deformation grenades gone linear—they create islands in the earth’s crust, like walled castles of geology, carving out new blocks...

The First World War, explained as a pub fight →
America waits till Germany is about to fall over from sustained punching from Britain and France, then walks over and smashes it with a barstool, then pretends it won the fight all by itself. By now all the chairs are broken, and the big mirror over the bar is shattered. Britain, France and America agree that Germany threw the first punch, so the whole thing is Germany’s fault . While...

The Mosque in Manhattan →
As a guy who has been living less than 2 miles from the WTC for about 20 years, let me say that no one I know in downtown Manhattan is opposed to this Mosque in any way, shape or form. The “outrage” is completely manufactured by forces far from here. Most of us would hardly have noticed such a tiny new building, and those who did, would have simply been happy to see new money being...

Clint Ecker, a freelance journalist, spotted an ad four days after the iPhone’s release. The ad claimed that they were starting a company where women will chat with customers on a pay-as-you-go basis. The women will talk to the clients and “perform various acts as desired by clients.” In exchange, the women get a free iPhone 4 and increased pay as the business grows.

Abstract This specification defines an API to navigate file system hierarchies, and defines a means by which a user agent may expose sandboxed sections of a user’s local filesystem to web applications. It builds on [FILE-WRITER], which in turn built on [FILE-API], each adding a different kind of functionality. via
