Pedal bit me: blood

6 May 2008

My foot slipped off my pedal on the way home today and it took a few good bites out of my leg. Thought I’d be a good internets person and take a short video and show the world.

Ew, I swear it didn’t look that bad on the road!

Funny thing is that it feels fine.

I love my shins.

You know, as much as you ride, you should look into getting some clipless* pedals. I’ve had them on my last two bikes and they are awesome, even if you do need special shoes for them.

I personally like the Shimano SPDs, which are mountain-bike oriented. You can get shoes for them that have the cleat recessed in the sole, so if you have to walk around, it’s not uncomfortable. Well worth the money, IMO. :)

Aside from eliminating accidents like that one, they also let you apply more power (because you can pull on upstrokes as well as push on downstrokes) and generally make you feel a lot more connected to the bike.

  • Total misnomer, they’re pedals that your shoes clip into.

I agree with David. You should be able to get you a clipless set with shoes for less than $200. You’ll get better pedal effiency as well. I can’t believe they didn’t sell you those with the bike!

Ibprofren and/or tequlia but not both!!

Damn, dem some sharp pedals. Anything special? Or do I just need to sleep with one eye open when we keep the bike inside the house?

Yeah I know I should get some.

Lee up there has a nice Shimano set that he got for Christmas.

I just need to get un-lazy and get it done.
