We left our apartment in Chicago around 6am and made it to the airport on time. We had a mini freakout when we encountered not one, but two sprawling and packed security check lines. To make matters worse, I only have an expired driver’s license for identification and I was a little worried it would hold me up.

I performed some ninja moves and found a tucked away security line that not many had discovered and we zipped through. My lack of non-expired identification was actually not that big of deal. They lady hassled me a little bit and then just told me I’d have to be fully screened. I got fast tracked ahead of everyone else and patted down. Strangely enough, I made it through faster than if I had proper ID!

We touched down in Austin around 11am and made our way to the hotel up on 11th street I picked up our badges (via a very complex queueing system) and our bags of junk. Sadly, pretty much the only worthwhile part of the swag bags were the bags themselves, which are canvas and look decent.

We were pretty wiped and there wasn’t much on consequence going on, so we trekked on back and took a 2-3 hour nap, woke up at six and tried to head over to the “Mix at Six” party. Finding it to be packed beyond imagination and line around the block, we had drinks and dinner at Trulucks across the street.

Perfectly rare steak, stone crabs, it was great. During dinner I had realised I had left my wallet in our hotel room which meant we had another walk to the hotel and back. We spent the rest of the night back at Six which had emptied out.

We ran into our friend Brent Simmons, and Scoble and a bunch of other people I follow on Twitter but have never actually met. I did, however, meet Chris Messina last night though, which shortens that list by one.

We finally went to bed around 2am and woke up this morning around 9am. Now we’re in panels for the rest of the day. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated.

Hey, it was nice to meet you — I read Ars Technica very regularly (thanks to Twitter!) so I appreciate your work! ;)
