Macworld 2008 Predictions, how did I do?

20 January 2008

You might remember that a few weeks ago, I made some predictions about the Macworld 2008 conference & expo we covered last week, here are the results:

  1. Movie Rentals: +1, this was the most likely to happen, everyone got this one right
  2. New Macbook: +1, also very likely, but the specific details were not pinned down until a day or two immediately prior to the keynote. Of course, we got the MacBook Air.
  3. More information about the iPhone SDK: +0, technically, this came true. Steve mentioned it on stage, confirmed the February ship date, but didn’t really give us and additional details that we didn’t already have. No information on an expanded Web SDK including the HTML5 improvements in Webkit.
  4. Bumped iPod touch/iPhone specs: +0, nope nothing on this front
  5. New iPod touch/iPhone firmware: +1, 1.1.3 was released as expected, no huge surprises though.
  6. Bumps to other product lines: +1, this technically didn’t happen during the keynote, but happened none-the-less. Apple bumped the Xserve Mac Pro in the week prior to the keynote.
  7. Major update or death of Apple TV: +1, Apple TV 2.0 was launched. Major refresh of the product’s firmware, and a price drop.
  8. Ryan Block wearing his hat: +0, NO HAT. I REPEAT, NO HAT.
  9. Mucho Jockeying between the Press Corps: +1, You should have seen the panic in all of our eyes, however, when they opened the wrong door for the press to enter through. Brian showed up late, and we and Mr. Block we trapped behind a thousand press who lined up behind the wrong door. There was plenty of rushing, running, and maybe a little shoving. Quite amusing.

So how did I do? 6 out of 9 (66.7%) of my predictions came true. 5 of my 7 (71.4%) predictions about Apple came true. Pretty good for my first time! See you guys next year.
