How to add or update your Google Reader profile

As a service to all my new Google Reader friends, here is a short tutorial on how to update your Google Reader profile so you can add at least a nice little icon for your account. Why would you want to do this? Well, for one, it’s tough to tell you all apart at a quick glance! Without an icon, my friends list looks like this:

Not only does that list look boring, it’s hard to tell everyone apart unless I read their names. Here’s how you update your profile, which can include a lot more than just a user picture. Finding the place to upload your picture takes a bit of work, but I’ll show you how in a few easy steps. Also note, that this icon is also inherited from your Google Talk icon. So if you start using Google Talk or even set up a profile picture in Gmail and use Gmail chat, your Google Profile should get populated.

First, click on your shared items in the main menu:

You should see a page like this:

click “Edit my Profile” and you should be able to edit all your information and upload a picture:

I think it should be pretty straight forward from here on out. You upload a photo from your computer, crop it, and boom, all done. Now you’re putting on a nice face to the world!

Clint - weird, I do have a profile pic set in Gtalk/Gmail. I just replaced it with another, wonder if you see it now.
